US government orders Anthropic to shut off Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5
Following a US government order, Anthropic switched off its two most powerful models for all users worldwide.

What happened
On Friday, the US government ordered Anthropic to immediately shut off access to Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5, citing national security.
- Anthropic says it received the directive at 5:21 p.m. ET.
- It complied, disabling both models for all users worldwide.
- Anthropic's other models are not affected.
The reason
- The directive is framed as an export control action.
- Anthropic says the government has only verbally cited a "potential narrow, non-universal jailbreak."
Anthropic: "We disagree that the finding of a narrow potential jailbreak should be cause for recalling a commercial model."
Background
Fable 5 had launched just three days earlier as a guardrailed version of Mythos.
