Meta cuts 1,500 Reality Labs jobs and shuts VR game studios
Armature, Twisted Pixel and Sanzaru are closing, and Workrooms is being shut down as Meta shifts toward smart glasses and AI.

According to the Wall Street Journal and CNBC, Meta has laid off around 1,500 employees, about 10% of its Reality Labs division, and closed several VR game studios.
What is closing?
- Game studios: Armature Studio, Twisted Pixel and Sanzaru Games
- The fitness app Supernatural, bought in 2023 for $400 million, moves into "maintenance mode"
- The VR meetings app Workrooms is being discontinued
Why?
Meta has spent roughly $73 billion on Reality Labs so far. It is now focusing on AI and smart glasses. Reports say Meta is considering doubling production of its Ray-Ban glasses because of strong demand.
For gamers
These studios made well-known VR titles such as Marvel's Deadpool VR and Asgard's Wrath. Their closure shows that the VR gaming market is still small.
