Apple announces the M6 MacBook Pro, starting at $1,999
Apple says graphics are up to 30% faster and AI tasks up to 25% faster than M5. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, while the familiar ports remain.

Apple announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with its M6 chip on October 27. The exterior design remains familiar, while the main changes concern the processor, battery and connectivity.
How much faster is M6?
M6 has a 12-core CPU: two super cores, four performance cores and six efficiency cores. It also has a 12-core GPU and a 32-core Neural Engine. Apple describes its CPU core as the world's fastest.
Compared with M5, Apple claims up to 30% faster graphics, up to 25% faster AI tasks and approximately 1.9 times the Neural Engine performance. Xcode builds are said to be 1.3 times faster. For owners of an M1 MacBook, Apple puts the M6 graphics improvement at approximately elevenfold.
These are Apple's comparative claims, rather than results from our own tests.
Display and battery
The display remains a 14.2-inch mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR panel with 120Hz ProMotion and up to 1,600 nits of HDR brightness. This model does not have an OLED display.
Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours of video playback or 16 hours of wireless web browsing. With a 96W adapter, fast charging reaches up to 50% in 30 minutes.
Ports and connectivity
The port selection includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe 3 and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple's N1 chip adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The camera is a 12MP Center Stage unit.

Our take
For M4 or M5 owners, an upgrade may be unnecessary. For M1 and M2 owners, the improvements are more substantial, particularly for battery life and graphics.
