iPhone Duo opens a 7.6-inch display, but deliveries are scheduled for October
This September 11 report explains Apple's September 9 announcement. The US starting price is $1,999, with initial availability scheduled for October 23.

Apple announced iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, on September 9 with a US starting price of $1,999. Preorders begin October 16 and initial availability is scheduled for October 23. On this report's date, September 11, the announcement is complete but deliveries remain prospective. Local prices in Kurdistan may differ.
Two displays and two usage states
The specifications describe a 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer display. Apple lists a 254 g weight, with thickness of 5.2 mm when open and 11.3 mm when closed. Those figures describe the design's two states, rather than results from a hands-on test we conducted.
“Thin” needs to be read with the relevant state attached. The open thickness is not the same measure as the size in a pocket. Keeping that distinction visible gives a clearer picture than one number without its context.
What is the larger space for?
In our assessment, the useful question is which job requires additional space. Reading a document while taking notes may have different requirements from answering a short message. A larger display does not create identical value for every user or task.
Our suggested assessment starts with the main applications and workflows, considering each in open and closed states when an opportunity to try the device becomes available. That is a proposed review method, not a conclusion that every application will behave identically.
The review can also consider moving between tasks, rather than only the appearance of a page. Where does reading resume? How does the user return to the previous activity? What is the intended outcome? Those questions connect the form factor to actual work instead of a product photograph.
A decision based on evidence
A potential purchase also requires clarity about the intended use and sale terms. Storage capacity, market variant and warranty can belong alongside price in the comparison. A starting figure cannot describe every local offer a buyer may encounter.
It is useful to separate the promise of a new design from evidence obtained through extended use. We have not tested iPhone Duo, measured hinge durability or independently assessed display quality. This report explains the announced design, schedule and price.
Establishing value for a particular person requires connecting those details to their tasks. Keeping announcement, preorder and delivery as separate milestones makes it clearer what is known now and what still awaits evidence from use. That gives readers a firmer basis for following a new category without treating the launch description as a completed review.
