eBay buys Depop from Etsy for $1.2 billion
Etsy is selling secondhand fashion app Depop to eBay for about $1.2 billion in cash, five years after buying it for $1.62 billion.

The deal
eBay and Etsy announced that eBay will acquire Depop for approximately $1.2 billion in cash, subject to adjustments. Depop is an app for buying and selling secondhand clothing.
Etsy bought Depop in 2021 for $1.62 billion, so it is selling at a lower price.
How big is Depop?
- Gross merchandise sales in 2025: about $1 billion.
- U.S. growth: nearly 60% year over year.
- 7 million active buyers, nearly 90% of them under 34.
- More than 3 million active sellers.
What's next?
The deal is expected to close in Q2 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. Depop will keep its name and brand.
eBay CEO Jamie Iannone said Depop will be "even more well-positioned for long-term growth" as part of eBay. Etsy CEO Kruti Patel Goyal said the sale lets Etsy focus exclusively on its core marketplace.
