Discord to make every account "teen-appropriate" until age is verified
Age checks will use a video selfie or an ID. Discord says most adults won't need to verify.

On February 9, Discord announced that a "teen-appropriate experience" will become the default setting for all users worldwide.
How does age verification work?
- Facial age estimation: a video selfie that Discord says "never leaves your device"
- Or submitting an ID to partner vendors
Not everyone needs it
Discord says most adults won't need to verify, because its model estimates age from account tenure, device and activity data.
Adults only
Only verified adults can:
- Speak on Stage
- Access age-restricted channels
- Change certain settings
Breach concerns
In 2025, a breach at a third-party vendor may have exposed sensitive data of around 70,000 users.
Update: Discord later said the global rollout of age assurance has been delayed to the second half of 2026.
