ChatGPT now predicts your age to protect younger users
OpenAI added an age prediction feature. If ChatGPT thinks you are under 18, content filters switch on automatically.

On January 20, OpenAI added a new age prediction feature to ChatGPT.
How does it work?
ChatGPT uses "behavioral and account-level signals", such as:
- The age you stated yourself
- How old your account is
- The times of day you are usually active
What if you are under 18?
Content filters turn on automatically, limiting sexual content, violence and similar material.
What if it gets it wrong?
If you are an adult and ChatGPT mistakenly identifies you as a minor, you can send a selfie to the company Persona to verify your age.
Why now?
In April 2025 a bug allowed ChatGPT to generate inappropriate content for underage users. Legal pressure on AI companies to protect children is also growing.
