# Tesla ends production of the Model S and Model X

On January 28, during the fourth-quarter earnings call, Elon Musk announced that Tesla will build the last **Model S** and **Model X** **next quarter**.

Musk said: "If you're interested in buying a Model S or X, now would be the time to order."

## What changes?

- Both cars are built at the **Fremont** factory
- After production ends, that space will be used to build **Optimus** robots
- **Cybertruck** production continues
- Tesla says it will keep supporting owners of these cars "for as long as people have the vehicles"

## History

The **Model S** launched in 2012 at $57,400 and made Tesla a household name. But sales of both models had stalled in recent years.
