# Rec Room is shutting down on June 1

## What happened
**Rec Room** announced that the game will shut down on **June 1** at 12pm Pacific.

Effective now:
- No new accounts can be created.
- No new friend requests.

## What was Rec Room?
- A social game across VR, mobile, PC and consoles.
- Founded in 2016 by Nick Fajt and Cameron Brown.
- More than **150 million** players.
- Valued at **$3.5 billion** in December 2021.

## Why it's closing
The company said "the path to profitability has gotten tough enough" that it can't continue. It also laid off staff earlier in 2026.
