On January 27, **OpenAI** launched a new tool called **Prism**, an AI-powered workspace for writing scientific research.

## What does it do?

- A word processor built for scientific papers
- Works with **LaTeX**, which scientists use to write equations
- Deeply integrated with **GPT-5.2**
- Runs in the browser

## Who is it for?

**Free** for anyone with a ChatGPT account.

## Why?

OpenAI says ChatGPT receives around **8.4 million** messages a week on hard science topics.

**Kevin Weil**, head of OpenAI for Science, said: "I think 2026 will be for AI and science what 2025 was for AI in software engineering."

OpenAI says Prism is meant to help scientists, **not to do research without humans**.
