# OpenAI releases GPT-5.3 Codex, minutes after Anthropic

On February 5, **OpenAI** released its new coding model **GPT-5.3 Codex**, just minutes after **Anthropic** launched **Claude Opus 4.6**.

## What's new?

- OpenAI says GPT-5.3 Codex is **25% faster** than GPT-5.2
- According to OpenAI, the model was "instrumental in **creating itself**"
- The **Codex** app (agent-based coding) launched on **February 2**

## The timing battle

Both companies had planned to release their models at **10 a.m. Pacific time**. Anthropic moved its launch **15 minutes** earlier.
