# OpenAI launches Codex app for Mac: several AI agents code together

On February 2, **OpenAI** released a new **Codex** app for **macOS**, built for coding with **AI agents**.

## What does it do?

- Runs **multiple agents** in parallel
- **Automations**: tasks can run in the background on a schedule, with results queued for review
- Arrives less than two months after the **GPT-5.2-Codex** model

## Codex so far

- Launched in **April 2025** as a **command-line** tool
- Came to the **web** a month later
- Now has a dedicated Mac app
