# Meta signs nuclear deals with three companies for over 6 GW to power AI data centres

On January 9, **Meta** announced three major nuclear energy agreements. The reason is simple: AI data centres need huge amounts of electricity.

## Three deals

| Company | What it supplies | When |
|---|---|---|
| **Vistra** | 2.1 GW from the Perry and Davis-Besse plants in Ohio for 20 years, plus 433 MW from upgrades | early 2030s |
| **Oklo** | 1.2 GW from small 75 MW reactors | from 2030 |
| **TerraPower** | 690 MW from two reactors, with rights to six more (2.8 GW) | from 2032 |

## Small modular reactors

Oklo and TerraPower build **small modular reactors (SMRs)**, a new generation of nuclear plants that are smaller and faster to build.

## Price?

Meta did not disclose terms. TerraPower targets $50–60 per MWh and Oklo $80–130.

## Why it matters

The AI race is now an **energy** race too. Big tech is hunting for steady, carbon-free power.
