# Sensor Tower report puts ChatGPT audience share below 50% as rivals grow

## What does the report measure?
Sensor Tower's report, published on June 16, 2026, examined the changing audience for AI assistants. Its True Audience measure concerns users across app and web. It is not a measure of company revenue or time spent.

These are estimates from an external analytics provider, not financial figures announced by the companies. A lower percentage also does not necessarily mean fewer users: the overall market and competing services can grow faster.

## Interpreting the growth figures
The original report cited more than 1.1 billion monthly users for ChatGPT, 662 million for Gemini and 245 million for Claude, based on the report's estimates.

AI app downloads were on course for roughly 2.3 billion in the first half of 2026, with spending above $4.2 billion. These were projections published before the half-year ended, rather than completed final totals.

## Keep the measures separate
Audience share, user counts and spending answer different questions. Leadership in one does not establish the same lead in the others.
