# ChatGPT now predicts your age to protect younger users

On January 20, **OpenAI** added a new **age prediction** feature to ChatGPT.

## How does it work?

ChatGPT uses "behavioral and account-level signals", such as:

- The age you stated yourself
- How old your account is
- The times of day you are usually active

## What if you are under 18?

Content filters turn on automatically, limiting sexual content, violence and similar material.

## What if it gets it wrong?

If you are an adult and ChatGPT mistakenly identifies you as a minor, you can send a **selfie** to the company **Persona** to verify your age.

## Why now?

In April 2025 a bug allowed ChatGPT to generate inappropriate content for underage users. Legal pressure on AI companies to protect children is also growing.
