# Ads are coming to ChatGPT: OpenAI begins testing in the US

On January 16, **OpenAI** announced it will start testing **ads** inside ChatGPT in the US.

## How they appear

- You can dismiss an ad, see why it was shown and turn off personalisation

## OpenAI's promises

- Ads **won't change ChatGPT's answers**
- No ads for users believed to be under 18
- OpenAI says it **won't sell user data** to advertisers

## Our take

Ads are a normal way to make money, but if they ever influence answers, trust will break. We'll be watching.
