Apple announced the new Mac mini with M6 and M5 Pro on August 25, 2026, opening preorders that day. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on September 22, so the announcement and customer-availability milestones are distinct.

## Prices and processor options

## What is the M6 foundation?

According to Apple, M6 uses a 2nm process and has a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU. It supports up to 32GB of unified memory and bandwidth of up to 170GB/s.

Apple also publishes performance-improvement figures, but these come from company tests using defined configurations. They should not be interpreted as the same acceleration for every workload.

The M5 Pro Mac mini supports up to 64GB of unified memory. That difference illustrates why choosing between the options involves more than the processor’s generation number.

## Video and development need useful criteria

For a video project, export time alone does not describe the whole experience. Opening the project, interacting with the timeline and moving between applications matter too.

For a developer, a short build can pose different requirements from a longer session involving simulators and other tools. Evaluation is more informative when it resembles the working day.

These are suggested comparison criteria, rather than results from our own hardware testing. Using the same project and keeping the conditions consistent makes the findings easier to interpret.

It also helps to define the desired result before comparing machines. Reducing waiting time may be the priority in one workflow, while keeping several tools available simultaneously may matter more in another.

Our assessment is that the announcement presents two options to evaluate against different needs. Establishing practical value requires the complete configuration, results from the required work and details of the local offer.

Apple’s announcement supplies the pricing, hardware foundation and schedule. Establishing suitability for a particular project requires a comparison using that project, rather than an inference from the processor name or a general performance claim.

This keeps the purchasing comparison tied to the work the computer is expected to perform.
